Maryland Association for Health, Physical Education,
Recreation and Dance Scholarship
Award Guidelines for High School Seniors
ELIGIBILITY
- Any student who is a senior and is enrolled in a Maryland high school (public or private) is
eligible for this scholarship. Students must plan to enroll as a full time student in a teacher
preparation program in Dance, Health, Physical Education or Recreation at a collegiate
institution.
- The applicant shall rank in the upper one-half of the senior class.
- The applicant shall hold a current G.P.A. of 2.5 or better, computed on a four point system.
- The applicant shall show evidence of leadership qualities in the community and extracurricular
participation, especially those that may have an impact on the future career
in teaching.
- Official application forms may be obtained from MAHPERD website at mahperd.org.
- Three letters of recommendation should accompany the completed application.
- one letter from a member of the physical education staff of the high school
- one letter from a school staff member outside of the department of physical education
- one letter from a person not a member of the school staff, excluding relatives
- one letter from a member of the physical education staff of the high school
- The form indicating the student’s present G.P.A. and class rank should be completed by a
school official and returned with the application.
- All forms and letters must be submitted to the MAHPERD Scholarship Committee by
May 15, 2007. The documents can be sent to:

- Completed applications will be reviewed in May.
- Award recipients will be notified and announced upon acceptance and enrollment in a higher education instutition.
- Final awards will be made upon evidence of full time enrollment and paid tuition at the institution of the recipient’s choice.
- A formal presentation of the scholarship will take place at the MAHPERD annual convention during the awards banquet.
